Long before jadeite becomes a jewel, its story belongs to the Earth. Formed through geological transformation, this remarkable mineral material is composed of tiny interlocking crystals. Their closely interwoven structure gives jadeite its exceptional toughness, while variations in colour, texture and translucency create an extraordinary range of expression. From vivid greens and delicate lavender to soft whites and warm shades of yellow, orange and red, jadeite reveals a remarkable palette shaped by nature. Jadeite’s interlocking crystal structure gives it exceptional toughness, making it well suited to jewellery when thoughtfully designed and properly cared for. It is not indestructible: protecting it from impacts and caring for its setting help preserve the enjoyment of wearing it. Our four lenses, Tone, Transparency, Texture and Transformation, offer an approachable way to explore colour, light, structure and craft. Inspired by the familiar appreciation of 色、水、种、工, they are the gallery’s educational framework, not an official gemological grading system or a direct equivalent of diamond grading.

on（工艺转化），是我们欣赏色彩、光感、结构与工艺的四个角度。它们借鉴色、水、种、工的赏玉思路，构成画廊的教育性鉴赏框架，并非官方宝石学分级体系，亦不等同于钻石分级。
1. Tone: Colour & Character · 色调：玉色与个性
Jadeite’s palette extends from lively greens to lavender, white and many other shades. We look at hue, intensity, lightness or darkness, and distribution: a well-balanced colour can create a striking presence, while a pleasing interplay of shades can give a piece its own visual rhythm. Here, Tone is our broad lens for colour appreciation; hue, tone and saturation remain distinct colour attributes.
翡翠的色彩从明快绿色延伸至浅紫、白色及其他丰富色调。我们细看色相、浓淡、明暗与分布：协调的玉色可形成鲜明气韵，不同色韵的交融亦可赋予作品独特节奏。此处的 Tone 是画廊欣赏整体色彩的角度；色相、明度与饱和度仍是不同的颜色属性。
2. Transparency: Light & Depth · 通透：光感与层次
Transparency and translucency describe how light passes through the material. The jade-appreciation term 水头 refers to this visual quality, not literal water content. Where light penetrates beneath the surface, it can lend the stone an alluring depth and luminosity. We appreciate the effect alongside colour, texture and thickness, rather than treating “icy” as a laboratory grade.
透明度与半透明性描述光线穿透材质的表现，赏玉时所说的“水头”指这类视觉特征，并非实际含水量。光线进入玉石内部时，可带来动人的层次与莹润感。我们将其连同玉色、质地与厚度一并欣赏，而不将“冰种”等赏玉描述视为实验室分级。
3. Texture: Grain & Surface · 质地：结构与玉面
The size and arrangement of interlocking mineral grains influence jadeite’s texture. Fine-grained material can support a smooth surface and high lustre, with careful polishing revealing how the finished surface responds to light. This is part of the pleasure of close observation: looking beyond colour to the character of the material itself.

Transformation describes the creative passage from material to finished piece through cutting, carving, polishing and setting. It is an appreciation of craftsmanship, not a statement about treatment status. We value the maker’s judgement in preserving a colour passage, refining a contour or balancing a setting. A simple cabochon can express elegant restraint; a carved work can bring cultural symbolism and narrative into focus.

Understanding worth & market value · 读懂翡翠的市场价值
Jadeite has an established place in the international gemstone market, with fine examples commanding some of the highest prices among gems. Buyers assess a recognised combination of colour, transparency, texture, condition, proportions and size. GIA documents substantial price premiums for desirable colour and, where other quality factors are equal, larger cabochons. Carefully matched strands introduce a further element of scarcity. Together, these factors help explain why apparently similar jadeite pieces can occupy very different price levels.

GIA identifies colour as jadeite’s most important value factor, followed by transparency and texture. Good transparency can enhance the appeal and value of less intensely coloured material, while fine grain supports a smooth texture and high lustre. These qualities are considered together, alongside treatment status and any fractures: the rarity of a desirable combination helps explain the exceptional prices achieved by the finest jadeite.
GIA 将色彩列为影响翡翠价值的首要因素，其次为透明度与质地。良好的透明度可提升色彩较淡作品的吸引力与价值，细腻的晶粒结构则有助于呈现平滑质感与明亮光泽。这些条件须连同处理情况及裂隙综合考量；多项优点兼备的难得，正是顶级翡翠拥有非凡身价的重要原因。
In a matched strand or set, achieving harmony across colour, texture, translucency and size introduces an additional selection challenge. GIA notes that exceptional strands with larger or carefully matched beads can command extremely high prices. A fine matched collection represents more than the sum of unrelated individual stones.
对于珠链或成套作品，色彩、质地、通透感与尺寸须彼此协调，甄选难度亦随之增加。GIA 指出，珠粒较大或配色精良的优质珠链可拥有极高身价。协调一致的成套佳作，其意义并不等同于多颗互不相关的单石相加。
Cutting is another part of the story. Fine cabochons are often shaped to preserve valuable material rather than fit standard dimensions. A well-considered cut balances the stone’s colour and visual presence with its proportions and finish. For buyers, understanding these recognised value factors makes appreciation more informed, connecting the beauty of the finished jewel with the quality of the material behind it.

Rarity & the collector’s eye · 稀有之美，鉴藏之趣
Fine-quality jadeite is rare, and its appreciation rests on the interplay of colour, transparency and texture. For the collector, the pleasure lies in looking closely at each piece: the character of its colour, the balance of its proportions and the way its polished surface meets the light. Rarity is considered piece by piece, rather than assumed for every jewel in a collection.
优质翡翠难得，其鉴赏讲究色彩、透明度与质地的相互映衬。对于爱玉之人，乐趣在于细赏每一件作品：玉色的个性、比例的平衡，以及抛光表面与光线交织的韵致。稀有性须结合个别作品判断，并非系列中每件珠宝均可一概而论。

Certification is included through a gemological laboratory in Singapore, with the laboratory confirmed before purchase. Should you prefer certification from a different laboratory, we would be happy to arrange this for an additional SGD 100, subject to availability. We will confirm availability and the expected turnaround time so you can decide whether you would like to proceed.
